What is a multichannel sequence?

Last updated:

Definition

Multichannel sequence: An outbound campaign that combines two or more channels — typically LinkedIn + email, sometimes adding phone or video — into one orchestrated cadence.

Each channel covers the other's blind spots. Email reaches inboxes prospects open daily; LinkedIn reaches prospects who rarely check work email. A common cadence alternates LinkedIn and email touches, branches on what the prospect did, and stops both channels as soon as someone replies.

How does a multichannel sequence work?

Each prospect moves through a series of steps across channels, and the next step depends on what they did. Someone who accepts a LinkedIn invitation gets a LinkedIn follow-up; someone who ignores it gets an email instead. A reply on any channel ends the sequence, so nobody gets chased on email after answering on LinkedIn.

What does a multichannel sequence look like?

A common pattern: view the profile, send a connection request with a short note, follow up on LinkedIn a few days after acceptance, and if the invite isn't accepted within about a week, send an email instead, with one or two further follow-ups. Timings are a starting point; adjust them to your audience.

Illustrative structure, not a benchmark. Every step stops when the prospect replies.

What are the rules for multichannel outreach?

Stop on reply everywhere, keep one consistent message across channels rather than repeating yourself, respect each channel's limits and laws, and don't add channels the prospect would find intrusive. Email steps need a verified address, an opt-out and authenticated sending; LinkedIn steps need modest, steady volume.

How do you run a multichannel sequence in LinkedCamp?

LinkedCamp sequences branch on accepted, replied or ignored, and mix LinkedIn steps with email steps. Email steps are available on Pro and Agency, with 50,000 and 100,000 emails a month. Replies from both channels land in one Unibox, and LinkedIn steps run within smart limits on a dedicated IP.

Cold email
Unsolicited outbound email to prospects who haven't opted in, sent for B2B sales, recruiting or partnership purposes. Legal in many jurisdictions under specific conditions; ineffective without deliverability infrastructure.
LinkedIn automation
Software that performs LinkedIn outreach actions — connection requests, follow-up messages, profile views, InMails — on your behalf, on a schedule and within volume limits.
Reply rate
The percentage of outreach messages (LinkedIn, email, or both) that get any reply — positive or negative. The cleanest single proxy for whether your outbound is working.
