Invitation to Maya

With a personalised note

Hi Maya, I saw your post on outbound hiring and it matched what we see with heads of sales at companies like Northwind. Would be good to connect.

Runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent or saved.

The limit

How long can a LinkedIn connection note be?

LinkedIn's Help Center caps a personalised connection note at 200 characters on a free account and 300 characters on Premium. Free accounts can add a note to only a few invitations each month, while Premium members can personalise every invitation. The limit applies to the note as sent, so count it with real names filled in.

Checked on LinkedIn's Help Center on 23 Oct 2026. LinkedIn's own pages differ on the exact number of free notes per month, so we don't quote one. How to use it

Write a note that fits

  1. Pick your account type: free or Premium.
  2. Paste or write the note, with LinkedCamp variables like {{firstName}} where each lead's data goes in.
  3. Fill each placeholder with the longest real value in your list to check the worst case.
  4. Copy the note into your campaign once it fits with room to spare.

Related

Does the limit count the placeholder or the filled-in name?

The filled-in text. LinkedIn only sees the note after your outreach tool replaces {{firstName}} or {{companyName}} with real values, so a template that fits with short sample names can run over with a long company name. Test the longest values in your list, or keep the template at least 20 to 30 characters under 200.

Is anything I type stored?

No. The counter runs entirely in your browser. The text you type and the values you fill in are not sent to LinkedCamp or saved anywhere, and they disappear when you close the page.

Why might LinkedIn count a few characters differently?

This counter counts Unicode characters, the way most text boxes do. Emoji, accented letters and some symbols can be stored differently and may count differently in LinkedIn's box, so leave a few characters spare when your note uses them.

Should I always add a note to a connection request?

Not always. A short, specific note helps when you have a real reason to connect, such as a shared event, a post they wrote or a mutual contact. A generic pitch in the note mostly gives people a reason to decline. Save the offer for the message after they accept.
