What is data enrichment?

Last updated:

Definition

Data enrichment: The process of taking a partial prospect record (just an email, or just a LinkedIn URL) and filling in firmographic, contact, and behavioral data from third-party sources to make it actionable.

Enrichment vendors take a thin input and return richer output: work email, phone, company size, tech stack, funding history, recent news. 'Waterfall' enrichment chains multiple vendors in priority order: if vendor A doesn't have an email, try vendor B, then C. LinkedCamp integrates with Snov.io and Dropcontact for enrichment.

How does data enrichment work?

You send an enrichment provider a thin record, such as a name and company or a LinkedIn profile URL. The provider matches it against its own data and returns extra fields: a work email, sometimes a phone number, company size, industry, location or technology used. You then verify the new fields before using them in outreach.

What is waterfall enrichment?

Waterfall enrichment queries several providers in a set order and stops at the first good result. If provider A has no email for a prospect, the request falls through to provider B, then C. It raises the share of records you can complete, at the cost of more vendors and more places your data passes through.

Why does enrichment matter for LinkedIn outreach?

A LinkedIn search gives you people, not email addresses. Enrichment turns a LinkedIn profile into a contact you can also reach by email, which makes multichannel sequences possible: invite on LinkedIn, then follow up by email if the invitation goes unanswered. It also adds company data you can use to tighten targeting.

LinkedCamp connects natively to Snov.io and Dropcontact for email finding and verification.

How do you keep enriched data accurate?

Verify every email before it enters a sequence, re-enrich records that are more than a few months old, and keep a suppression list of people who opted out. Bounced emails and spam complaints damage your sender reputation, so a smaller verified list usually outperforms a larger unverified one for cold outreach.

Is data enrichment GDPR-compliant?

It can be, but it creates duties. When you obtain personal data from a source other than the person, GDPR Article 14 requires telling them, including where the data came from, within a reasonable period and at the latest within one month, or at your first communication with them. This is general information, not legal advice.

Ideal Customer Profile (ICP)
A specific, tightly-defined description of the company and person profile most likely to buy your product. One of the strongest predictors of outbound reply rate.
Intent data
Signals that a company is actively researching solutions in your category — third-party browsing patterns, content downloads, job posts, recent funding, or stack changes. Used to prioritize prospects within an ICP.
